Mobile Web Applications
The handheld internet is here to stay
With the invention of smart phones, based on their particular OS (operating system), came mobile apps. While it created an industry in designing and developing applications, it also created a challenge for businesses that wanted to enter the mobile market for business reasons. Which device or more importantly, OS (operating system) do you address? Apple’s IOS; Google’s Android; RIM’s native OS; Windows Phone 7 or Symbian?
But what do all smart phones have in common? A browser.
Apps are not the same as mobile websites. The difference between these two friends is the platform form that they have been written for. Apps are specifically formulated for a particular device and available for download. Android, blackberry and Apple have their own platform, which requires unique software - aka apps (applications), and mobile websites are designed one platform that rules them all. With one versatile platform product, a mobile website can be enjoyed by all mobile devices that have a smart browser
A web-based app can address your business needs depending on what you wish to achieve with your vision of the app. There are instances where depending on the needs, design, ability and capability of the app, that may dictate whether an app should be constructed for a specific OS. Games are an excellent example.
If your intention is to provide information such as products or services; video, or photos; creating either a mobile version of an already existing website or a mobile web app will be the best option. To achieve cross platform capability, we employ designs for the mobile phones browser.
